  Recently, the 2026 CCF-Tencent Rhino-Bird Fund completed its review process, with a total of 41 scholars receiving funding support this year. Among them is Associate Professor Tai Ying from our school.



    About the Fund

    The CCF-Tencent Rhino-Bird Fund was jointly launched by the China Computer Federation (CCF) and Tencent in 2013. It aims to build an industry-academia collaborative innovation platform for young scholars, promoting the creation of long-term value through cutting-edge technologies in industrial upgrading and social progress.

    The 2026 CCF-Tencent Rhino-Bird Fund opened for applications on May 15, receiving over 370 applications from more than 120 universities. After multiple rounds of rigorous review by senior experts from both academia and industry, 41 young scholars were ultimately selected.





Faculty Profile

    Tai Ying is an Associate Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor at the School of Intelligence Science and Technology, Nanjing University, and a Zijin Scholar of Nanjing University. He previously served as an Expert Researcher (T12, formerly T4-1) and Research Lead at Tencent YouTu Lab, where he led the team in developing cutting-edge computer vision technologies that were deployed in products such as Tencent Meeting Virtual Backgrounds, Tencent Cloud Digital Human Driving, Tencent Cloud AI Face Fusion, and QQ Special Effects Filters, generating significant economic value.

    He received his Bachelor's and Ph.D. degrees from Nanjing University of Science and Technology in 2012 and 2017, respectively. In 2016, he visited Michigan State University as a visiting scholar. His primary research interests lie in generative computer vision technologies, including multimodal text-to-image/video generation, human-centric content editing and generation, high-fidelity image/video restoration, and high-performance content generation. He has published over 70 papers in top-tier international conferences and journals, with over 11,000 Google Scholar citations as of July 2024. Among these, his first-authored and corresponding-authored papers have received over 6,000 citations; his most cited first-authored single paper has been cited over 2,400 times; and 22 of his papers have been cited over 100 times. He holds 41 authorized patents (17 international patents, 11 Hong Kong patents, and 13 Chinese patents).

    His research achievements have earned him the First Prize of the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Award in 2021 (as the fourth contributor) and the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Nomination Award from the China Society of Image and Graphics in 2018. He led his team to win three global championship titles in the super-resolution track at NTIRE 2020 and 2021. He has served as Area Chair for ECCV 2022, WACV 2025, 2024, and 2023, and FG 2023, as well as Associate Editor for the journal Image and Vision Computing. He has been consecutively listed among Stanford University's World's Top 2% Scientists for three years from 2020 to 2022. He currently leads one industry project (1.5 million RMB/year) and two government-funded research projects. His research group maintains collaborative partnerships with leading domestic and international companies and startups, including China Mobile, ByteDance, Tencent, Alibaba, Vivo, and Liblib AI.
