From September 20 to 21, 2025, the 2025 Tencent KAIWU Teaching Practice Workshop — 'Fundamentals and Practice of Reinforcement Learning' Suzhou Session was successfully held in Room 401, East Nanyong Building, School of Intelligent Science and Technology, Nanjing University.This workshop was organized under the framework of the Ministry of Education's Industry-Academia Collaboration and Education Program Artificial Intelligence Faculty Training in Intelligent Decision-Making Based on Reinforcement Learning. It was jointly hosted by the School of Intelligent Science and Technology at Nanjing University and the Tencent KAIWU Platform, with support from the Artificial Intelligence Education Committee of the Jiangsu Artificial Intelligence Society.The course was designed by the Reinforcement Learning Theory curriculum team and delivered by Mr. Yang Tianpei from Nanjing University. Practical training sessions were led by Tencent Lecturer Li Qiaolin.Aimed at universities in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai region, the workshop emphasized the integration of teaching and hands-on practice, combining practicality with cutting-edge knowledge. It attracted 57 faculty members from over 30 institutions, including Tongji University, China University of Mining and Technology, Henan University, Jiangnan University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Jiangsu University, Jiangsu University of Technology, and Suzhou University of Science and Technology. Participants came from diverse fields such as artificial intelligence, computer science, communications engineering, and advanced manufacturing.At the opening ceremony, Professor Gao Yang, Party Committee Secretary and Executive Dean of the School of Intelligent Science and Technology at Nanjing University, and Manager Wang Wenjun, Operations Lead of the Tencent KAIWU Platform, delivered welcoming speeches.
The training covered multiple modules, including the fundamental principles of reinforcement learning, key algorithms, deep reinforcement learning frameworks, and hands-on platform practice. It combined lectures with practical sessions, incorporating model experiments, group competitions, and experience exchanges to help participants comprehensively master the training and optimization process of AI agents. Attendees unanimously expressed that the workshop enhanced their understanding, broadened their perspectives, and strengthened connections and collaboration among faculty from different universities. They believe this experience will play an important role in future teaching reforms and curriculum development.
Since its establishment, the School of Intelligent Science and Technology has placed strong emphasis on industry-education integration, continuously supporting resource development and teaching system reforms aimed at enhancing industry-education collaboration and optimizing the curriculum. The Reinforcement Learning Theory course team has achieved notable results in teaching innovation. In October 2024, Professor Gao Yang from the course group was awarded the Second Prize in Suzhou Higher Education Teaching Achievements.Building on this collaboration, Nanjing University and the Tencent KAIWU Platform will further strengthen project partnerships to explore AI education pathways that integrate global perspectives with local practices, supporting the Belt and Road Initiative and meeting the demands of artificial intelligence talent development.
